Advent with the Earth: Day 10 (Dec. 12)

What might rocks show you about God?

Rock: Image of God

Psalm 62

Brown rock shaped like a bridge over brown ground in front of a blue and slightly cloudy sky background

“For God alone my soul waits in silence,
for my hope is from [God].
God alone is my rock and my salvation,
my fortress; I shall not be shaken.
On God rests my deliverance and my honor;
my mighty rock, my refuge is in God.”
– Psalm 62:5 – 7, NRSVUE

What might rocks show you about God?

In Psalm 62, rocks symbolize the steadiness of God’s “salvation” (v. 1), “love,” and justice (v. 12). This image inspires the psalmist to wait and hope in God.

Advent imagery tends to portray God shaking up rocks rather than being like a rock. This psalm gives us another way to envision God’s coming through the rocks and minerals around us.

How might God be your “rock” (v. 6)?
