A project months in the making is finally complete! I have created an Advent devotional called “Advent with the Earth,” and its release starts today!
This devotional provides daily reflections that focus on creation. It highlights the ways that creation shows up in scripture and includes images to help readers visualize creatures, landscapes, and other elements of God’s creation. The aim of this devotional is to enable Christians to reconnect with the rest of creation so that we might seek justice and care for this planet in climate crisis from a place of solidarity and hope.
The introduction frames the devotional like this:
This season is ultimately about hope in a God who is with us as the creatures we are and who won’t rest until all of creation receives new life with God. Advent with God is Advent with the earth — in its suffering, in its vulnerability, in its protest, in its vitality.
“An Invitation in Climate Crisis,” Advent with the Earth
“Advent with the Earth” is a free resource, and it is available here in two different formats. You can read the reflections each day online on the blog. You can also sign up through the link below to receive a PDF printable version.
I have also developed a guide for using this devotional in a group setting, whether with a partner, friends, or church congregations. The guide is already included in the PDF, and I will share it on the blog as well. (Just to be clear, the devotional is designed for adults, not for children or youth.)
I invite you to check it out and to let me know about your experience with it. I would love to receive feedback about this resource. You’re welcome to share your thoughts in the blog comments or in a contact form.
I hope you have a wonderful Advent this year!
